The Parcel

Town’s Community Housing Now Program Continues to Move Forward

On December 1, Town Council received an update on the Phase 1 plan for The Parcel, which will provide 80 units of affordable rental housing in mid-2023. The project is being developed by the Pacific Company. For individuals who are interested in renting at The Parcel you may contact the Pacific Company toll free at (855) 452-8250. The Town’s effort to provide affordable housing ownership now (‘Housing Now!’) for families earning up to 120% of the area median income (e.g., $77,950 for a family of 2) is moving forward. The Town, in partnership with Mammoth Lakes Housing (MLH), is providing funding to purchase existing housing units and sell these units to households working in our region at an affordable price. The units are deed restricted to retain affordability long-term. The Town’s plan is to provide 6-8 units over the next 6 months. For additional information and to be considered for program contact MLH at (760) 934-4740. MLH also provides other housing related services for low income households.

Shop with a Cop

This important event for the Community is taking place on Saturday, December 11. All the children picked out gifts online for themselves and their families and those were ordered by Officers.  MLPD has been busy wrapping all the presents this week. On Saturday morning, all local Law Enforcement Agencies will drive the kids to Bishop for a Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast at the fairgrounds, a Code 3 (lights & sirens) Parade down Main Street and then all the gifts will be delivered by the caravan of Officers.  A huge “Thank You” to the Community for your generous donations towards this event, to the Bishop Police Department for co-hosting and to all the Agencies for your participation. You can follow Eastern Sierra Shop with a Cop on Facebook.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning & How To Prevent it From Happening To You This Winter

Every winter over 430 people die from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. When the temperature drops and furnaces, fireplaces and space heaters are used for heating there is a risk of CO exposure. CO is considered a “silent killer” because it is an invisible and odorless gas. The Town and MLFPD would like to remind residents to take actions to prevent injury or death from CO poisoning. Click here to learn more and who to contact for additional information.

Be Snowsmart this winter!

Be SnowSmart this Winter!

Mammoth Lakes receives some of the heaviest snowfall in California. The Town’s snow removal operators work diligently to ensure safe driving conditions for our residents and visitors. Our snow removal operators work around the clock in 12-hour shifts that may extend for weeks at a time. Priorities are established to consider which streets need to be cleared first in order to maintain emergency access and safe driving conditions throughout the town. Click here to learn more and as a reminder, it is a violation of the Town of Mammoth Lakes municipal code to park on any roadway from November 1 through April 30. Call 800-427-ROAD for current chain control restrictions or road conditions, listen to KMMT 106.5 or Sierra Wave 92.5 or look for chain control signs throughout town.
