Be Aware of Bears in Mammoth Lakes The MLPD has responded to 40 bear calls in August alone! These calls ranged from someone just seeing a bear, all the way to having a bears inside a residence. All MLPD Officers are trained to deal with bears and moving them along with beanbag and pepperball rounds. Officers also spend a lot of time educating the public on how to avoid these conflicts. We expect that the bears will be even more active in Town with the campgrounds closed and winter hibernation just around the corner. Please help us protect our bears by keeping your trash secured, your vehicles locked and clear of food, your home secured with windows and doors closed and by not leaving food outside (including bird feeders). You can also help by reporting any open dumpsters or lost bags of trash by calling: (760) 932-7549, option 7 to have MLPD Officers dispatched to the location.
