Come skate with us this winter! Public skate occurs daily in set session times. Space in these individual session times is limited, arrive early and don't forget your mask! More information and live schedule is available at www.MammothIceRink.com. 

Ice Skating Lessons 

Join our Ice Skating Lessons offered by certified US Figure Skating staff. Classes begin with the fundamentals and are structured according to the U.S. Figure Skating Association’s Basic Skills Program. The curriculum is designed to:

  1. Make your skating experience safe and pleasurable.
  2. Improve your skills through progressive levels that will yield confidence and satisfaction.
  3. Build a solid foundation for ice skating or ice hockey offered at the Mammoth Ice Rink.

Open to all ages and abilities. Classes will be held on Wednesdays between 3:15 and 5:00 p.m. Our  winter session is January 6-February 10 and costs $50. Get more info and register here.

Ongoing Programs

Mono County Library: Illustrated Stories 

Join the Mono County Library for this free extra-curricular activity and explore the evolutionary development of human storytelling throughout the school year. Open to all Mono County teens and young adults in grades 9-12. Each series will have span multiple weeks with a different theme. The Illustrated Stories on Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 6:00 pm through December 10, join for one evening or the full series and discover the way images can tell a story. Get more info and register today! 

MAC After School Programs

The After-School Art Clubs are available for students in the Mammoth Unified & Eastern Sierra school districts.  The After-School Art Club is a weekly club with a rotation of learning in visual art, media arts, theatre, and dance. The program is open to children ages 5 – 17 and will provide students the opportunity to express themselves artistically in a safe and nurturing environment. Through our After-School Art Clubs, students in Mono County are exposed to art they may not receive in school. As often as possible, the arts and craft projects will include cultural components. Mammoth Lakes Library Virtual Homework Zone

Volunteer high school students will work with K-8 students as Homework Coaches, using their own academic experience to help along their younger peers.  Each VHZ is facilitated by the Youth Librarian, Miss Carissa, though Homework Coaches will work with individual students or small groups in zoom break-out rooms.  In these distant times, one-on-one connections like this can make a big difference. Mono County Virtual Peapod

Socialize with other families in Mono County online in English each Monday and Friday at 10:00 am with Mono Kids Virtual Peapods click here for the Zoom links and on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm on Facebook Live. Spanish Peapod meets virtually on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 1:30. More information is available here.

Mammoth Lakes Library Story Hour 

Join Mammoth Lakes library for a virtual story hour Wednesdays at 10:30 am in English and in Spanish on the first and third Fridays of the month via the Mammoth Lakes Library Facebook Page. Mammoth Library also has a resource page to keep school aged children busy while learning from home.

Town Host Program Seeking Applicants

MLTPA and MLTS have created a Community Host program to ensure our visitors have a positive experience here in Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierra. Hosts are tasked with providing standardized, accurate and current information, sharing their knowledge of the local geography, reporting maintenance issues to managers, and offering basic first aid supplies. A Host is expected to work primarily during times of peak visitation, typically on holidays and weekends. Both paid and volunteer opportunities available. Reach out to gretchenhaselbauer@mltpa.org to apply and join the growing team.

With freezing temperatures and snow the Parks Department have CLOSED the following amenities for the the winter season.

  • Bike Trail access to the Lakes Basin 
  • Restrooms and drinking fountains at Shady Rest Park. Portable restrooms are in place.
  • Restrooms and drinking fountains at Whitmore Recreation Area. Portable restrooms are in place.
  • Restrooms at Mammoth Creek Park East
  • Drinking fountains at Trails End Park/Volcom Brothers and Little Brothers Skatepark

Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center 2020 Annual Fundraiser

Superheroes & Comic Book Drawing & Painting Workshop

Saturday, December 5 from 10:30 to 12:30 pm join this fun workshop designed for kids 8 to 14 years of age is part skill based and part imagination to create comic book or superhero characters.  Naomi Hart Johnson will teach participants a valuable technique  for creating accurate copies of pictures  kids love and also invite them to create their own idea generated characters and stories.  For more information and to register online, click on  https://www.c5studios.org/superheroes-workshop.   This class will be limited to  8 participants.  Masks will be required.

A Storytelling Workshop for Teens & Adults

Join a group of like-minded adults and teens and learn the skills, practice, and purpose for rekindling the ancient art of oral traditions of telling stories.  Become a confident storyteller and an advocate for a vital form of communication.  This event will be held over Dec 5 and 6 outdoors at Millpond County Park to allow for a safe gathering.  Get more information and register online at https://www.c5studios.org/storytelling-workshop.

Art & Wine: Knitting Basics and More

Learn to knit with Mono Arts Council on December 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Class will be making 100% cotton reusable dish cloths or for the more ambitious learner a scarf. Learn more and register here. 

Christmas Tree Permits

Traditionally, the Inyo National Forest has sold Christmas Tree permits for the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Bishop BLM Field Office at our visitor centers. The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association (ESIA) is also selling permits for the Humboldt-Toiyabe NF at the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center Friday through Monday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the ESIA office in Bishop (behind the White Mountain Visitor Center) Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits are also online, for Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/htnf/passes-permits/?cid=fseprd564027
