Recreation This Week!

Recreate Responsible at Parks

Get Outdoors and Recreate Responsibly

While travel for leisure or recreation purposes is still not permitted, we encourage all of our locals to get outside as an important component of mental health during this difficult time. This "new normal" is new for all of us - be kind to one another as we are all adjusting and learning what it looks like to recreate responsibly in the COVID-19 era.

Let's discus what is open and OPENING for a change! Whitmore Recreation Area continues to be OPEN. Volcom Brothers Skatepark and Shady Rest Park are OPEN, including the new Shady Rest DiscGolfPark®. In accordance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines, the playgrounds at both facilities will remain CLOSED. Please follow the responsible recreation guidelines above.

SIerra Star Golf Course opens tomorrow with additional safety measures.

Public restrooms are available at Shady Rest Park, Whitmore Recreation Area, Trails End Park, and Mammoth Creek Park as well as all of Mono County Parks except Crowley Lake.

Trails and access to public lands remain open. However, please note access to restrooms, water and trash are currently not available. Prepare accordingly and pack it in - pack it out!

Campgrounds and RV Parks remain closed but dispersed camping is available. Current fire restrictions do not allow campfires while dispersed camping. RV Dump Stations are available at Mammoth Community Water District as well as the Bridgeport Shell Station. Please dump responsibly.

Eastern Sierra Sustainable Recreation has created a website dedicated to Eastern Sierra COVID-19 closures - check it out here. This site includes camping and recreational sites up and down the Eastern Sierra, regardless of County.

Lastly, this is a difficult time for everyone. If you are feeling particularly stressed and would like to talk to someone please call the warm line at (760) 924-1740.
