Recreation This Week!

Responsible Recreation

Get Outdoors and Recreate Responsibly

It is important for people’s physical and mental health to get outside and exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also important that the public honors the States’ “Stay at Home” directives to not travel for recreation needs. When recreating outside, please stay close to home and observe physical distancing, wear a mask when appropriate and wash your hands often! Whitmore Recreation Area is OPEN for responsible recreation. While using our facilities, please observe physical distancing guidelines and be kind to one another.

Additionally, public restrooms have been difficult to find. Please note the public restroom at Mammoth Creek Park, Trails End Park and Whitmore Recreation Area are OPEN. Mono County public restrooms are now also OPEN, including all park restrooms.

The Inyo National Forest has closed all developed recreation sites through May 15. Any changes will be updated on Inyo National Forest website. Campground openings will be delayed regardless due to concessionaires unable to travel and perform necessary pre-season maintenance. Read more on campgrounds here. Furthermore, there are fire restrictions in place for Inyo National Forest and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest outside of designated recreation sites. If you plan on taking advantage of dispersed camping, please note you are no longer allowed to have a fire.

The State has provided a list of safe recreating ideas, read the full list here.

Lastly, this is a difficult time for everyone. If you are feeling particularly stressed and would like to talk to someone please call the warm line at (760) 924-1740.
