Get Outdoors and Recreate Responsibly

Bust those quarantine blues with some outdoor physical activity! It looks like we are in for some really nice weather, so get outside for a walk, bike ride, hike, hopscotch, whatever you enjoy and soak up some sunshine. Whitmore Recreation Area remains open for responsible, socially distant recreation. As the State moves towards Phase 2 of reopening, we will assess other Parks and Facilities and reopen when it is safe and permitted to do so. 

The State has updated their information on responsible recreation and provided a list of low risk activities. View the full list here. 


Finally, Mammoth Hospital has provided some excellent videos, along with a written recreation guide, advising people how to recreate responsibly in public in this new socially distant world. Check them out below:

Stay Connected! 

Stay Connected with Mono County Behavior Health hosting live events Monday-Friday at 10:30 am in English and 1:00 pm in Spanish on the Mono County Behavior Health Facebook Page . Info on current services, meditation techniques, art projects and more! 

Mono County Virtual Peapod

Socialize with other families in Mono County online each Monday and Friday at 10:00 am with Mono Kids Virtual Peapods. 

Virtual Story Hour

Join Mammoth Lakes library for a virtual story hour each weekday at 10:30 am in English, 1st and 3rd Saturdays at 1:30 am and Monday and Friday at 3:00 pm in Spanish via the Mammoth Lakes Library Facebook Page. Mammoth Library also has a resource page to cure those cabin fever blues. 


Mono Makes Art

Mono Arts Council offers free art supplies and streaming art lessons for Mono County kids! Every Tuesday and Thursday, join MAC for Mono Makes Art. Tuesday's will be Anime it!, where students learn about the animation process and use simple art materials for character creation and storytelling. Thursday's will be Design me!,  STEAM lessons combining art and design-thinking for making fun and useful objects. Email kristin@monoarts.org to join the program, or check it out on the Mono Arts Council Facebook Page every Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm!

Mono Lake Moments

Join Mono Lake Committee live on Facebook every Wednesday and Friday as they share the changing scenery of Mono Lake including birds, spring flowers, and more. Enjoy moments of peace and tranquility from Mono Lake in your living room. 


Trivia Continues Every Tuesday

Join Mammoth Brewing Company live on Facebook every Tuesday night at 7:00 pm for some fun trivia.

Play-Well TEKnologies Virtual Lego Camps - Online

Mammoth Parks and Recreation Department have partnered with Play-Well TEKnologies to bring you TWO online Lego camps this summer. Camps will take place July 6-10 and August 3-7 from 9am-12pm. Upon registration, participants will be provided with a list of materials they can source from personal collections or have delivered prior to the start of camp (additional materials fee). MAC: Art and Wine Series - Online

The ever popular Art & Wine program is going virtual! Classes will be taught live, through Zoom and will have wine deals available through A-Frame Liquor (details coming soon). Sessions begin May 15 and continue each Friday through the end of the month. Sign up today here.

Help the Mammoth Lakes Tourism Covid 19 Food Bank

The food bank is seeking donations. Support the local food bank! Donations can be taken online here.  


Donate and/or Volunteer for the Mammoth Lakes PPE Drive

Collecting bootie covers, masks and more to distribute to help keep our community and medical employees safe. Donations and distributions taken Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 10am to 2pm  at the Mountain Center at The Village on Canyon Blvd in Mammoth Lakes. Donate or sign up for a volunteer shift! The PPE Drive will run through May 15.


Outdoor Science Education Program - Valentine/SNARL

Valentine Reserve/SNARL Outdoor Science Education Program have sadly been canceled, more information is available here. In the meantime they are providing a list of educational activities for students K-12. For more information visit their website here.

Around Town Banner

The Inyo National Forest has extended the closures of developed recreation sites through May 15, 2020. Wilderness permits have been canceled through May 31.Trails are still open but be aware that during this closure amenities like bathrooms and trash removal is not available. Pack it in, pack it out. Lastly, when the State does move to reopen please note campgrounds will still need some time to be staffed and prepare for the Summer season. More information is available through the press release dated May 6, 2020.

Town of Mammoth Lakes: All playgrounds, skateparks and facilities are CLOSED at this time, except Whitmore Recreation Area. 

Most of the Town of Mammoth Lakes Multi-Use Paths (paved trails in and around Town) in the downtown and Old Mammoth areas are OPEN, as well as the trail along Lake Mary Road up to the Twin Lakes Parking Area. For more information, please visit the Parks and Facilities Status Update. 

Mono County has CLOSED all playgrounds, skateparks and public restrooms until further notice. The parks themselves are not 'restricted' but the amenities listed above are CLOSED.

Community Conversations

A virtual community meeting in English will be held tonight, Thursday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. Followed by a virtual community meeting in Spanish at 6:30 pm. More information here.
